Description
On auction, we have an original photograph of Jimi Hendrix Experience. This was the photograph used for the album cover of "Are You Experienced" released in 1967. This 18" diameter color photo is signed on the bottom right by the photographer Karl Ferris. This is in an ornate gold and black carved wooden frame. The back of the frame has 3 autographs set in the matte and covered with plastic shields. They are: "To Herbie, Thanks See you in Amsterdam as well. Love, Noel Redding 29th June 1980", "Good Wishes! Mitch Mitchell" and "Herbie, watch and wait" signed by a person I cannot identify."Herbie" was Herbert Worthington, a close friend, frequent photographer and traveling companion of Jimi Hendrix and his group. This comes from his estate and this auction includes part of the original mailing box addressed to Worthington from Berkley artist Clifford Seeley dated 15 April 1999.
This was professionally framed by a gallery in Los Angeles. How and why it got to Berkley is a mystery as much as the unidentified autograph. The frame measures 28 1/2" X 28 1/2" and weighs 10 pounds 9 ounces.
I believe this is in very good condition. The photograph is slightly faded. The surrounding black matte has some fading and spotting. The frame needs a bit of restoration, the paint is chipped and there is a small crack in the molding at the top. Please see my photographs for more description.
This is from my friend, who is parting with some of his treasures. He purchased this and more from the estate of Herbert Worthington. You may enjoy viewing his other Jimi Hendrix photographs I have on separate auctions at this time.
