Description
Iomega Jaz Drive 1GB *Tested* Includes A/C Adapter, SCSI Cable, Mac OS 9 Drivers. Condition is "Used". Shipped with UPS Ground. This is a SCSI Iomega 1GB Jaz Drive for Macintosh. The Jaz Drive was created by Iomega, the same company that brought us the Zip Drive.
In June 2021 I used this drive to recover data from old Jaz disks that have been sitting in my basement for the last 20+ years. I replaced the data cable and the A/C adapter with used components. This is drive is great to attempt data recovery from old Jaz disks, or for vintage Macintosh collectors. Take piece of mind knowing the unit you're purchasing is operational and has already had faulty components replaced.
The drive comes with the A/C adapter and SCSI cable, with attached adapter (see pictures for details).
Also included is a CD-ROM containing the Iomega Drivers for MacOS 9, Stuffit Expander, and Fetch (a MacOS 9 FTP client).
Important Notes
I do not guarantee the drive will read your Jaz disks or that data recovery will be successful.
When dealing with removable disk media that is 20+ years old, there are many factors that effect the integrity of the media. Proximity to magnetic fields and other damage can corrupt data or render the disk completely unreadable.
I recommend never disconnecting the SCSI cable from the drive or from the SCSI adapter. These are high-density 68-pin SCSI connectors - and the pins are spaced approximately 1mm apart. Simply disconnecting and reconnecting these cables can very easily damage these pins.
To use the drive you need a vintage Mac with a SCSI port running MacOS 9 (it may be possible to use an earlier OS with different drivers). It can be used with vintage PowerBooks that have SCSI, with the addition of a HDI-30 to DB25 SCSI adapter (not included). You will have to be familiar with the operation of MacOS 9 in order to use the drive.
No Jaz Disks included.
