    I have for sale a pair of custom homemade connecting rods, with crossheads
    , for an AF model 21168 steam engine. These are an upgrade to the cheesy connecting rods, without crossheads, that are standard with these engines. These model 21168 steam engines are nice little engines with headlight & smoke & choo-choo, and the motors are surprisingly good. It's beyond me why AF chose to not install crossheads on these high-end versions of the 2116x series of engines. They installed the crosshead guide so it would have been a matter of just a few pennies to install crossheads. Adding my custom connecting rods & crosshead will greatly improve the appearance of a running engine.
    The connecting rods are from an "Atlantic" steam engine, cut into two pieces, overlapped to shorten, and riveted together. The crossheads
    (part
    PA11099 I think)
    are standard as found on many AF steam engines. The overlap is nice because it moves the front half of the connecting rods farther out and more in line with the crosshead guide.
    I have tested these connecting rods and crossheads on my 21168 engine. Each rod and crosshead was tested as a matched set so you should keep the two parts together.
    Check out these videos of my 21168 engine in operation. The first video shows the engine with my custom rods and the second video shows the same with the original rods. Note the much better appearance of the custom rods. For the original rod the piston rod at the end should not be moving up and down - it looks weird.
