19th C. Papier Mache Lacquered Tea Caddy W/2 Lidded Compartments Lovely!!

We are pleased to offer for this listing a 19
th
c. papier mache lacquered tea caddy with a rose pattern and two covered compartments inside. The compartments appear to be lined with silver paper. There is extensive gilt work along the top rim under the lid and on the rim of the bottom of the lid. There is a similar pattern on the base trim. Typical age related crazing is present overall. The hinges are missing on the lid and it sits freely and perfectly on top. There were no hinges or screw holes for them on this piece and we don't know how the hinges were held in place (see last two photos). We left the repair alone in hopes that someone who knows more than we do can carefully and safely replace the hinges without damaging this lovely treasure. The background paint has a gold glow and we believe that it has had many layers of skillfully applied finish work. There is a small bit of paper loss on a back corner of the lid, but no serious damage (see third from last photo). Please refer to the photos for the best look.
It measures 6 ½”w. X 4 ¼” d. x 4 ½” tall.
